One Big Build

Blue crayon line graphic

Ronald McDonald House Alberta is committed to a future where no family is turned away due to a lack of space. We are focused on expanding our two largest facilities, Calgary and Edmonton, where the need for support is greatest. In Calgary, our recent expansion added 64 new family suites, upgraded dining and multipurpose areas, and enhanced amenities, all delivered on time and under budget.

This project has allowed hundreds of additional families to stay close to their children while receiving medical care. With Calgary complete, we are now turning our attention to Edmonton, where waitlists for family suites remain full every night. The continued demand highlights the urgent need for expansion so families accessing pediatric care in Edmonton have a safe and welcoming place to stay.

A family with a sick child is a sick family.

One Big Goal

We are serving only

14%

of families who need to travel for pediatric care in our province

That’s only 1,100 FAMILIES with sick children

We need to
help more

An estimated
6,900
seriously ill children who bear the burden of traveling 100 km or more (round trip) to access healthcare did not stay at one of the four Ronald McDonald Houses in Alberta.

The Need

Tens of thousands of families have come through our doors and received the support and healthcare access they need. But even with all the families we've helped since 1985, we can only serve a small portion of the province who need to travel for pediatric care. With over 65% of the population living outside a location with a specialized children’s hospital—the need to travel for treatment is very high in Canada.

More Capacity

The proposed expansions will nearly triple the amount of currently available suites.

More Nights of Comfort

By expanding the Houses, we can provide an additional 45,000 nights.

That equals 70,000 Nights of Comfort!

More Families

We’ll be able to serve 2,400 families annually with our expansion—double our current number!

If we could build it,
we would.

The Ask

Ronald McDonald House Alberta is seeking funding from all levels of government to advance the Edmonton expansion and continue providing families with critically ill children a place to stay close to care. We are also reaching out to our community for support, so together we can ensure families seeking treatment in Edmonton have the comfort, care, and space they need during difficult times.

Meeting theNEED will NEED$80M in support.

Under
One Roof

Ronald McDonald House Alberta keeps families together during their most difficult times.

  • Accessing healthcare can be difficult for the families that need it the most
  • Many barriers—from financial to emotional to physical—create hurdles for families seeking care for their sick children
  • Ronald McDonald House Alberta Alberta’s four Houses exists to alleviate these barriers
  • Families can instead focus on what matters most: medical treatment of their sick or injured child

Family-centred care is what Ronald McDonald House Alberta is all about.

With your help, the children that need us can focus on getting better and leave the building to the professionals.

At Ronald McDonald House Alberta, we are working toward a future where no family is turned away due to a lack of space. Our recent expansion in Calgary added 64 new family suites and upgraded amenities, all completed on time and under budget, allowing hundreds more families to stay close to their children while receiving care. With Calgary complete, we are now turning our focus to Edmonton, where nightly waitlists for family suites show the urgent need for more space. The proposed Edmonton expansion will increase the number of available suites, providing many more nights of comfort and support for families during some of the most challenging times of their lives.
